One of our much loved vintage suppliers shares our love of all things exotic (as well as gardening) and gave us a tiny seedling almost a year ago. This once tiny plant is the Dutchman's Pipe or Aristolochia. We knew it was unusual but nothing prepared us for this spectacular and gigantic flower. This monstrous curiosity has the smell of freshly zested lemons and attracts insects, trapping them for a period of time before releasing them again, covered in pollen.

Travelling and living between Sydney, Johannesburg, Cape Town London and Paris, Lady X has amassed over the years an important collection of "true" vintage, pieces we rarely see these days and pieces we have only seen in books. So far we have 54 outstanding garments from the 1920s-1980s including a politically incorrect but rarely available 1960s Leopard coat. After World War One, Walter Nichols arrived in China and created his art deco designed rugs using the Chinese rug making principals and practices and incorporating all the usual and traditional Chinese elements but in the new modernist deco way. By 1924 he opened a factory where he produced these carpets and exported them to the United States and Europe. Unlikely and often clashing colour combinations were characteristic of the Nichols rug and it is this which I personally find so captivating. It is no surprise that current interior design trends have picked up on the worn-in, graded and shadowed beauty of velvets and other such fabrics at the same time as these incredible carpets are becoming so sought after. The decedant look of an old posh rug, ever-so-slightly threadbare has never had so much appeal!!
